Rocco And The Price Of Lies by Adrian Magson – Blog Tour Review.

About The Book

Murder by suicide? Three senior government officials – a judge, a politician, and an ex-police chief – are all dead by their own hands. Inspector Lucas Rocco finds himself once more working for the Interior Ministry: undertaking an investigation meant to avoid a government scandal and ignoring unpalatable truths. He’s soon convinced that a common denominator must be at play… Rocco uncovers top-level fraud, theft and deception. And when he narrowly survives an attempt on his life, he realises that he has nothing to lose by bringing the truth out into the open – whatever the risks.

My Review

With thanks to the publisher for the copy received. Rocco And The Price Of The Lies is the first book that I have read in this series, but I had no problem following the storyline. It is easily read as a standalone novel.

When Rocco is asked by the interior ministry to help investigate a series of suicides after blackmail letters were received he wasn’t prepared for how many obstacles would be placed in his way. Mainly from people were regarded him as a has been who’d been moved to a rural posting. But they were mistaken, Rocco is definitely not one to sit back and accept being ignored or looked down upon.

This was a novel that I really enjoyed. It isn’t fast paced, action filled and there is only one violent scene which involves Rocco near the end. The crimes in this novel are more of a threat of exposure, of lives and reputations being ruined. And a sense of increasing danger for some of the criminals concerned when they under estimate how dangerous others could be.

All of the characters are fascinating. Rocco is a character who is very easy to like. Intelligent, steady, has a sense of humour that is slightly sarcastic and most of all he is loyal. Particularly to colleagues and his new neighbours, which explains his guilt over a possible move back to Paris. One of my other favourite characters was Mme Denis, the neighbour everybody would love to have.

This is a series I would definitely like to catch up on. Rocco and The Price of Lies is book six in the series so I have plenty to read.
