My Review

With thanks to the author for the copy received. I read a lot of crime fiction but I’ve never read a book like this before. Where the lead character, Lizzy, is the person who has committed the crime and where as you read you discover the reasons why.

I thought the court scenes were fascinating, I enjoyed the way the witnesses were taken down by the prosecution and the defence and the way that each of the witnesses seemed to help Lizzy accept her actions. Regardless of whose side they were on. I particularly enjoyed the way Reedy’s true nature was revealed.

I also liked the moments when Lizzy was trying to sleep. The descriptions of when she first met Tony, the reasons their marriage fell apart and the final betrayal that led to his death were all revealed here.

I did struggle at times with Lizzy, but these feelings lessened the more I read. When I realised that what I initially thought was callousness was just acceptance. She couldn’t deny that she had murdered her husband and his lover so didn’t bother to show any remorse.  From then I admired her honesty.
